Kenneth E. Goodwill, Ph.D.

Dr. Ken Goodwill is Senior Director of Alliance Management at Takeda San Diego. Since joining Syrrx (now Takeda) in 2001, Dr. Goodwill has managed research collaborations with Hoffman La Roche, Sankyo, Celera Genomics and Cubist Pharmaceuticals. In November of 2003, Dr. Goodwill was appointed Project Leader for the DPP-IV inhibitor development collaboration with PPD, Inc. As part of this work, he managed bulk drug scale-up of four clinical candidates, one of which (SYR-322) entered Phase III clinical trials for type 2 diabetes in January of 2006. Drug scale-up was a critical factor to support the 16 month timeline from IND filing to Phase III start which was achieved for SYR-322.

As an "IND engine" for Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Takeda San Diego collaborates with Takeda Global Research & Development in Lincolnshire, IL, and Takeda Pharmaceuticals in Osaka, Japan. Dr. Goodwill manages Chemistry Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) work with other Takeda sites as well as with contract research organizations. He also provides project management for various Takeda San Diego research programs, and is involved in business development activities.

Dr. Goodwill received his B.S. in Chemistry and Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley where he received a pre-doctoral fellowship from the American Heart Association. In his graduate work, he determined the first protein crystal structure for an aromatic amino acid hydroxylase, tyrosine hydroxylase. Prior to joining Takeda, he held a research faculty position in structural biology at the University of California, Los Angeles.
